I asked myself that as I struggled with my life. Why was I unhappy? I realized I couldn’t just blame it on work or time. I was out of alignment with my own core beliefs for a simple and authentic life. Being a pretty reflective person, I took the practices I’d learned and went deep with my questions. Our ability to live a happy, simple, and authentic life comes down to more than livelihood and what we do for work. It's bigger and it's holistic. Hence, "Lifelihood."

By using those practices, you can see where the 5 areas in your life converge and where they conflict. Understand what drives and motivates you. Then you can begin to truly live your best life.

WHO AM I?

My name is Andrea Mai. I blog at www.MindfulJournal.net. I’ve been a meditation practitioner for 12 years and am active in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition. Much of my time is spent leading groups in meditation and discussion. I’ve been a writer for most of my life and have written a number of books, both fiction and non-fiction including Unwinding Anxiety: Free Your Mind, Get Your Life Back.

I believe in these practices and exercises because they changed my life. The joke was always ‘what do I want to be when I grow up?’ I’ve been a cabinetmaker, a cube-dweller in the insurance industry, and a variety of other things sprinkled in over the years. But I wasn’t happy with how much of my time involved work that didn’t fit, a busy schedule, and lack of time to pursue what mattered most to me. That’s where this project started.

Life is short and precious, and I wanted to make the most out of it.

LIFELIHOOD evolved as I realized I couldn't look at just work or just time or just money.

I knew in order to really be happy and to live authentically in all the areas of my life, it was going to take a holistic approach. I spent time contemplating each area and seeing where things lined up or where they didn’t. Once I looked at all these important areas, I discovered what matters to me and the importance of being, not just doing.

Now, I want to offer all that I’ve learned, studied, and practiced to YOU.
