Taste Sensation

A hot cup of chai tea brewed in my kitchen. I’m drinking it at my desk, sorting out its flavors. There is a lot of black pepper flavor.

I could think of all the cups of chai I’ve had in the past, but I focus on this one. I pour almond milk into the cup to soften the spices. Pepper. Cardamom. Cloves. These stand out.

What do these flavors, this cup of tea mean to me in this moment? It doesn’t have to mean anything. Am I satisfied? Enough. Not the best, not the worst. No sweetener, which is how I prefer my chai.

What are you tasting? Try to be with it right now and not compare it to past experiences with that flavor. What does it feel like to pause long enough to notice what is going into your mouth, resting on your tongue, passing your lips?
